When i start Symantec Protection manager service it stops in a few seconds and the following error appears in the application log: Java -1 Error has different troubleshooting

Port 8005 is being used by another application, hence Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is not able to use port 8005 for Tomcat communication.


By following the steps below, you will be able to SEPM to use a different port for its Tomcat communication:

Verify in the application log that you are getting Java 1 Error ( not Java -1 Error)
By using the netstat command, confirm the conflict on listening on port 8005
Browse to %ProgramFiles%\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tomcat\Conf (or to your custom SEPM installation folder)
Open the file server.xml in a notepad
Search for port 8005 and change it to 8006 or a different available port
Save the file and close it
In your Microsoft Windows operating system, open the Services Management Console (services.msc)
Start the service for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
Try Login in to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console
You Should be now able to login to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console.
